Read Hebrews 4:10-16

God wants for you to enter into his rest. This does not mean you never work. A surfer gives a great picture into what type of rest God wants for us.

Does a surfer make the wave? No.
Does the surfer work to ride the wave? Yes.
Do the great surfers make it look easy? Absolutely!

God wants the same for your life.

He makes the wave.
You ride the wave.
The more you do it, the easier it looks to everyone else around!

The Bible is a Tool God gives us to be able to ride his wave. It is vital in entering into the rest God has for you. The Bible will…

  1. Cut us in the parts of us no one can touch…including ourselves.
  2. Show us the God who knows us better than we know ourselves.
  3. Reveal to us Jesus, who empathizes with all of our weaknesses.

How can God’s Word paradoxically cut you and lead you into rest?

The Bible is a Tool God gives us to Hear & Follow Jesus. You do reap what you sow. Without actually devoting the time to read the Bible, you can never reap the rewards of the Bible cutting out what does not belong and healing you to find the rest God intends for you.

How does this play out practically?

  1. First, Before. When do you need to engage with God’s Word First, Before? Before work. Before bed. Before games. Before??? For me, it is First, Before I start into my day of tasks. I’ll never read unless I read then.
  2. Have a plan. Read through a book of the Bible one chapter or one story or one thought at a time. Or read a YouVersion Bible Plan. Or read a devotional book. Doesn’t matter what plan…just have a plan!

You could already read God’s Word daily. Great! let this be a reminder of what God wants to do through his Word. Perhaps you come to this material without this discipline in your life. My prayer is God uses this to put a commitment inside of you to Hear & Follow Jesus through his Word.

No matter where you are with your discipline, what time & what plan do you need to have to read the Bible First, Before?
