Small & Unique Tests of God

From Judges 6:36-40.

We’re not supposed to test God.
But then people like Gideon test God.
And God answers those who test him.

Gideon is known by his fleece. And yet, this isn’t an apex or a starting point for Gideon. It is in the middle of his story.

God is still transforming Gideon into a Mighty Warrior. Maybe it is in the moment God clothed Gideon when he understood. Something clicks. Maybe Gideon can feel God clothing him.

And he needs to know for sure.

When we step away from what we used to clothe ourselves, we feel naked and exposed. Gideon could feel this same exposure. “I’ve put myself out here, what if God doesn’t come through?”

Ever wonder this same wonder?

When I write, I feel naked and exposed. I do not have confidence anyone will find this any least bit helpful. And yet this eats at me until I do something about it.

We clothe ourselves in fear, power, ministry, church growth, being known, having it all together…because we know we can use it to clothe our nakedness. We think inadequate clothing is better than being exposed.

And yet, God wants us to put down everything we clothe ourselves with to find he is our covering.

So, I think, tests that test if God will cover us is a test he will accept.

The fleece test was small…but uniquely something God could do for Gideon.

What small…but unique…test could you lay before God as he transitions you from hiding in fear to mighty warrior?
