What Happens When Chaos Happens?

32But he [Jesus] was looking around to see who had done this. 33The woman, with fear and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. 34“Daughter,” he said to her, “your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be healed from your affliction.”
35While he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue leader’s house and said, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the teacher anymore?”
36When Jesus overheard what was said, he told the synagogue leader, “Don’t be afraid. Only believe.”

Mark 5:32-36 (Whole chapter linked cause Jesus went from one chaos to another.)

Jesus was masterful at being fully present in the middle of chaos.

Here’s what happens for me inside chaos. Something gains my attention. My full attention. Now nothing else matters. My attention is so focused on the fire right in front of me, I’ll ignore any other distraction. Or, even worse, I’ll think any other distraction is an annoyance.

Jesus went from calming a horrible storm…
To healing a legion of demons inside a man…
To receiving a request a request from Jarius to heal his daughter…
To being touched by a woman in a crowd.

Jesus’ disciples thought he was nuts when he said, “Someone touched me.” The crowd was so thick, everyone was touching him! Yet he knew someone touched him intentionally.

And Jesus intentionally stopped right then to have Presence with someone who needed his Presence.

He made the decision even though this wouldn’t be popular. Jarius’ daughter was super sick. In fact, she died on their way to her. If I were Jarius, I’d be thinking, “This woman can wait! She’s bled for 12 years! Keep going. You can talk with her on the way…or talk with her after you heal my daughter…but you keep your feet moving towards my home!”

None of what anyone else thought mattered to Jesus in this moment. This woman needed his presence now. So he would give her his presence now.

Life is chaos. The more you lead, the more chaotic it is.

So everyday you have to decide which fire to put out when.
You have to decide which person needs your presence more.
You have to decide when you need to work on the important, but not urgent and let some fires rage.

You lead towards a preferred future.
You must Influence towards this preferred future.
You must use your Presence to Influence others.
You must decide who & what need your Presence the most.

Let your gaze always be scanning so you can know who needs your Presence the most. And when you decide, put your full Presence into what you decide in the moment you decide it.

Don’t let chaos master you. Give your full Presence to those who need it and when they need it so you become the master of chaos.

Don’t let chaos be your master. Give your full Presence to those who need it and when they need it so you become the master of chaos.
