What Do You Pray?

What Do You Pray?

Shane Kennard

9 “Pray, then, in this way:
‘Our Father, who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. ’
14 For if you forgive other people for their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive other people, then your Father will not forgive your offenses.

Matthew 6:9-14

The Well Off know they are not the biggest thing around.

The Biggest Thing Around

If we’re honest, we like to be the biggest thing around.

I’m not saying this is a good thing. I’m just saying it is a thing. You want to be at your best. You worked to be at the top. The organization wants to be the best at what they do. These in and of themself are not bad. But too long unchecked, these will bring you to thinking you’re the biggest thing around.

The problem with being the biggest thing around is that there is no one bigger than you.

Jesus, the Older Brother

Jesus acts like the Older Brother by teaching us the heart of our Daddy King. He’s spent eternity at his side and he gives us the cheat code into God’s heart.

Praying for God’s Kingdom to come to earth is the cheat code to God’s heart.

You are not the biggest thing around. God and his Kingdom is. And Jesus teaches us how to pray to bring the biggest thing around down into your life.

Jesus teaches us to pray God’s Kingdom…

Character on earth as it is in heaven.
Values and vision on earth as it is in heaven.
Mission on earth as it is in heaven.
Provision for his mission on earth as it is in heaven.
Forgiveness on earth at it is in heaven (Your forgiveness to God and others).
Strength for righteousness on earth as it is in heaven.

Buckle Up

When you pray for God’s Kingdom to come, buckle up.

You don’t know where God will lead. He will change you at the values level first. Your life will reflect the values of God’s Kingdom through the beatitudes.

As he starts to change you from the inside, the outside will change too. You’ll see Kingdom opportunities more. Opportunities to give into his Kingdom with your talents, time and treasure.

You will find yourself…

In places you’d never thought you’d go,
Giving things you’d never thought you’d give,
Doing things you’d never thought you’d do.

Because you realized you want Someone bigger than you to take over.

All so his Kingdom can come.

All because you pray God’s Kingdom come down to earth just like it is in heaven.

Prayer: God, bring your Kingdom down into my life and into the lives of those around me.
